A room, box, or any region, which maintains constant humidity (temperature) is known as Humidor. It is used to preserve things like pipe tobacco, cigarettes, or cigars. Ideally, acrylic glass humidor boxes or small wooden boxes are used for storing few dozen of cigars. These humidors use hygrometers to maintain series of different humidity levels.

Types of Humidors
Currently, there are five types of humidors available commercially; they are –
• room humidor,
• cabinet humidor,
• table humidor,
• personal humidor, and
• travel humidor.
Let us discuss briefly about these humidors.
Room Humidor

It is a humidor, which appears very big like a room. Basically, it is a room that is generally used for keeping cigarettes only. Any room can be converted into a humidor, just by installing a humidor in that room.
Cabinet Humidor

Usually, this humidor is fixed on the floor or furniture, and typically its capacity is 1000-5000 cigars.
Table Humidor

A table humidor is portable humidor and it can be easily transported to one place to other place. Coming to capacity of this humidor, it can hold up to few thousands cigarettes. Generally, this humidor comes in sophisticated leather or marble or wood exterior and a common glass top.
Personal Humidor

A personal humidor is used for personal purposes, and it can hold only 75 to 100 cigars. Basically, these humidors are very similar to travel humidors and they are also known as ‘desktop humidors’.
Travel Humidor
A travel humidor is a portable humidor and it is used predominantly during journeys. Typically, the travel humidor can handle 10 to 40 cigars.
Design of Humidor
Typically, a humidor is a wooden box, which was originally developed by Spanish cedar. Some humidors are big in size so as to hold bigber cigars. Depending up on size of humidor, its capacity is calculated, and it may vary to a good extent.
As already mentioned, the Spanish cedar can hold lot of water that helps in maintaining constant humidity levels. This water has nice fragrance to keep the cigars fresh. Ultimately, it obviously opposes tobacco beetles, which cause destruction of cigars. The humidors have hygrometers, which can be used to monitor the level of moisture inside the humidor. Most of the humidors have a humidifying component.
Working of Humidor
A humidor is a closed wooden box, which holds cigars and maintains constant humidity level inside the humidor. Whenever user opens it, the interior region of humidor gets exposed to natural climate and at this time the usage of cedar comes into play.
Since cedar contains some water, if the outside climate is little dry, it releases some water (very little amount) and maintains constant humidity level inside the humidor. Conversely, if the air is a bit wet, then the cedar absorbs the excess moisture present in the air and saves the inside cigars from destruction. Since the humidor has a hygrometer inside it, the owner can decide the desired level of humidity inside the humidor.
Since most of the builds have dry air inside their rooms, cedar releases some water into the humidor to maintain steady humidity.
